ROLE :
Responsible for the development of the nation’s palm oil and sago industries.
FUNCTIONS :
- Formulating, coordinating and monitoring the implementation of strategies for the development of the palm oil industry.
- Formulating, coordinating and monitoring the implementation of strategies for the development of the sago industry.
- Secretariat to the Cabinet Committee on the Competitiveness of the Palm Oil Industry (CCPO)
- Formulating and implementing programmes for the development of palm oil and sago smallholders sector.
- Planning and managing activities to facilitate palm oil exports, including through Palm Oil Credit Payment Arrangement Scheme and counter trade.
- Coordinating and monitoring matters pertaining to Malaysian Palm Oil Board (MPOB) and Malaysian Palm Oil Council MPOC).
- Coordinating the implementation of development projects by MPOB.
- Formulating and implementing programmes on sustainable palm oil development under the Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil and Clean Development Mechanism.
- Planning and implementing the National Biofuel Policy, including development strategies and incentives for the promotion of the national biofuel industry.
- Formulating and implementing activities to strengthen existing and new markets for palm oil.
- Formulating and implementing activities to encourage the development of alternative sources of energy from the palm oil industry such as biomass and second generation biofuel.
- Monitoring the development relating to renewable energy sources in other countries.
- Formulating strategies to stengthen research and commercialisation of new palm oil based products.
- Coordinating and considering new applications for palm oil milling licenses.
- Secretariat to the Appeals Panel Committee to consider appeal cases for MPOB licenses.
